White River Place
October 2009 sees the launch of the most exciting retail development Cornwall has ever seen. White River Place will transform the town into a major shopping and leisure attraction, serving 250,000 residents and 1.5 million tourists every year.
The £75m town centre regeneration scheme houses a new 4 screen state of the art cinema, new shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, as well as an underground 550 space car park and 69 apartments. With stunning design, relaxed open styling and contemporary architecture, White River Place is more than just a place to shop, it's a vibrant town to meet, eat and browse all day long. After hours, a continential cafe culture, integral apartments and four screen cinema add life and soul long into the evening.
Names already announced are Starbucks, HBOS, Wilkinson and Bon Marche with New Look and Peacocks relocating to the new development. Frankie and Bennies have also confirmed that they will be moving into the White River Cinema Complex.

The South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) is investing a total of £31.5 million in the project, with the remainder coming from a private development company White River Developments Ltd. The deal legally commits the RDA to part-funding the scheme and the developer to building it and providing the rest of the funding.
Sir Robert McAlpine, is the main contractor of White River Place. They commenced on site in October 2007 and are due to complete on schedule for the scheme to open on time in early October 2009. Up to 200 people will be employed during the construction phase and the RDA will ensure that local materials and labour are used wherever possible. This means tens of millions of pounds of the scheme’s costs will be recycled into the Cornish economy. Once complete the scheme is expected to employ between 500 and 700 people.
